WILMINGTON - Bernice “Bunny” Bunn Lea, ninety years young, of Tarboro, NC, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in Wilmington, NC.
“Bunny” Lea was born in Washington, NC to Joseph Powell Bunn and Bernice Nicholson Bunn on October 29, 1926. She graduated from Tarboro High School in 1943; then attended Salem College, and graduated in 1947. That same year she married Philip Pell Lea of Rocky Mount, NC in July.
“Bunny” is preceded in death by Philip Pell Lea, who passed in February 1988, and her brother, Dr. Joseph Plummer Bunn of Oviedo, FL, whose wife, Katherine also survives. “Bunny” Lea is survived by her daughter Ramsay and husband Frank Gorham of Wilmington, NC; her sons, Philip Lea and wife Jo of Rocky Mount, NC, Richard H. Lea of Rocky Mount, NC, and George P. Lea of Durham, NC. Her grandchildren are Hunter Gorham of Raleigh, NC; Walker Gorham and wife, Rebecca, of Raleigh, NC; as well as, Anna Lea Moore and husband, Joe, of Raleigh, NC; and Katherine Lea Womble, and husband, Robert, of Atlanta, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, March 18, at Mrs. Leas home church, Church of The Good Shepherd, at 231 N. Church St., Rocky Mount, NC, with Reverend Matthew R. Johnson officiating. We would also like to thank Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center for making her last days as peaceful as any family could hope for.
Pallbearers will be Hunter and Walker Gorham, Gordon Bunn, Page Lea, Winston Lea, and Haynes Lea.
We would be remiss if we did not mention Bunnys love and passion for her impeccable gift of gardening. It was well-known that she could turn a parking lot into a Garden of Eden. So, we did the best we could to adorn the sanctuary with her favorites.
Any donations should also be made to Stonewall Manor, P.O. Box 9028, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, in Bernice “Bunny” Leas name.
Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. You may share memories and condolences with the family by visiting www.wheelerwoodlief.com.
